| Agreed! BTW now 19% of our total signatures have been received since news came out of Gerry's and Coleman's tragic passing four weeks ago. IMO that demonstrates a renewed interest in Chuck's music. |

| Now 26% of Petitioners (102 of 391) have signed on in the last six weeks. Pretty amazing considering it's been 8 months since the Petition began. |

| Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I didn't see it in checking the topic...is there any indication as to a threshold we have to reach in reference to the amount of signatures we need before the petition is presented? |

| Sounds good to me..I was just curious. I just didn't know if there was a standard of some sort. 1000 is a good round number. It's attainable and will get the record companies' attention. |

Reading about the Buffalo concert once again got me thinking about the tragic passing of Gerry and Coleman... and reconciling that with my firm belief that good things can always come from tragic episodes in life. One of my hopes early on was that the plane crash would bring renewed interest to Chuck and his music. I believe the Petition is a good indication -- at least for this site -- that this may be happening. Has anyone else noticed how the signatures have picked up since 2/13/09? I decided to graph it out... take a look...
40% of the signatures to date have been collected since the Buffalo plane crash. Perhaps Gerry's and Coleman's passing in some way will help us reach our goal and allow Chuck's music to spread more hope and love to thousands who've never heard or no longer hear his music.

I agree with your analysis, John. But I think the April result may stand alone. Feb / March certainly included a reaction of shock and grief, with an emotional outpouring of sympathy in many comments. One could expect the shock and reaction to wane shortly afterward.
But 2 months after the tragedy and the stats lifted once more in April. I guess May will tell us if perhaps there is a renewed interest in Chuck's music, or if the Mangione Magic website is simply reaching further afield. |

If we see a continued upward trend over the next few months, then I'd suggest it is due in fact to the spread of mangionemagic.com as you suggest, which got a much needed boost from the tragedy. In the end (and I think Leatherlips would concur), the glory isn't for the website; rather the benefit is to demonstrate to the record labels there is a large, viable market for Chuck's music. |

Leatherlips' Petition has just completed its first year and we're now well over the halfway point of the 1000-signature goal. Here is the latest graph showing the rate of signatures...
The rate of signatures has dropped off a bit, but would I attribute that to fewer concerts in late Spring. While all of us would like to promote Chuck more, ultimately (IMO) it's Chuck and his management who decide how much exposure he'll get.
Let's keep the signatures coming! |

We are now at 705 signatures through September... 70% of our goal... almost there!
Signatures continue to come in at a strong rate. It won't be long before Leatherlips can finalize plans to present the Petition to the record labels to demonstrate the continued marketability of Chuck's out-of-production material. And this is just the names of those who already know of Chuck's music. There is a whole new generation of young musicians and music lovers not represented on this list who have yet to discover Chuck's music... an untapped market who only know him as a cartoon character on King of the Hill.
Let's make this happen before the end of the year. A completed petition would make a great Christmas gift for the record label execs! |

Here are the latest stats on the Petition. I had hoped back in November that we might reach Leatherlips' goal of 1000 by now, but we're getting close. The rate has dropped off a little, but still strong considering Chuck hasn't performed much at all since August. IMO this demonstrates the longevity and long-term marketability of Chuck's music, regardless of his tour schedule... the viability stands alone on his legacy and reputation. If YouTube can continue to generate petition signatures after 21 months, there's a way to translate this same interest and appreciation to CD and DVD sales.

When I think about the number of people that attend Chuck's shows I'm convinced that CD / DVD sales in the lobby would blow these kinds of numbers away in a matter of days.
Not sure if that's how F&L DVD was sold, but I can picture a Together or Tarantella DVD doing extremely well that way!
When I saw Sonny Rollins in Sydney a couple of years ago the swarm of people clambering to buy his DVD was unbelievable. I nearly lost my dad in the crowd! |
