I know this song has been mentioned in various posts from time to time, but I don't see a thread dedicated to it. Got my Chuck playlist going while working and I've Never Missed just came up. What a fine song! Not sure why, but it has a feeling/mood/groove unlike any others (IMO)... maybe it's Charles' outstanding harmonica. Have you noticed Chuck gives a very impressive piano performance here as well?... Perhaps one of his best. And Chris' soprano solo takes me for a ride that I don't want to end.
This song is great! A perfect transition from Give it All You Got. Everybody takes a great solo. I always thought that the loud note in Chuck's piano solo was a flugelhorn, but now I see it's just the keyboard.
The Fun and Games album in my opinion has it all. From fun to mellow to awsome. i think if I had to bring 2 cds with me it would be this one and Main Squeeze for sure. I did a Jazz radio show in town for a while and used Give it all you got as my open and close. My last line of my show was "until next time you give it all you got b bye" as my own tribute to our dude with the horn.
I agree with all on this. I've Never Missed Someone Before and You're the Best there is are stand-out tracks in my opinion, and I agree perfectly placed between the big guns Give it all you Got, Pina Colada, Fun & Games.
I find this song underappreciated even within my own listening habits. Everytime I hear it I wonder why I don't play it more. One of my favorite parts is the transition from Chuck's solo into Chris'. Meatman's harmonica solo defines the tone of this song. It carries that forelorned longing sound one experiences when the loved one is gone.
I've never heard Chris give a bad solo. From his composition to his tone, he's always on the mark no matter if it's a ballad or hot hot number.
In your world there was a KING, who once said, "I have a dream." Now there's a man who knew the secret.
